When it comes to pet-centered events in the GTA, you’d be hard pressed to find a dog lover who has not heard of Woofstock. Touted as North America’s largest outdoor dog festival, Woofstock attracts over 300,000 visitors to the historic St. Lawrence Market neighborhood every summer and has been a favourite among dog lovers since its inception in 2003.

With its popularity secure in the hearts of pet parents, it’s no wonder that the creators of this poochtastic festival decided to branch out and create a corresponding event slated to take place just in time for the Holiday Season.  And Winter Woofstock was born.

Much like its summer counterpart, Winter Woofstock is a veritable who’s who of the canine world and attracts over 25,000 pet lovers each year.  Wander the aisles of this puptacular festival and you’re sure to find something to tickle your fancy. From holistic food to tasty treats; creative toys to doggy fashion, Winter Woofstock has everything the discerning pet lover wants.

Unlike the original Woofstock, which takes place outdoors on the streets of downtown Toronto, Winter Woofstock moves the celebration indoors at the Direct Energy Centre on the CNE grounds.  Once again, dogs are encouraged to accompany their humans and partake in the fun and festivities.  Pet parents can speak with experts in the animal health field, take in a doggy fashion show and enjoy an exciting afternoon out with their favourite four-legged friend.

This year will mark the second time that Avivagen will participate in Winter Woofstock and we’re looking forward to once again connecting with pet people and their pups.  Dog lovers can stop by our booth, fill out a ballot to win some great prizes and even pick up a sample bottle of our unique canine supplement, Oximunol Chewable Tablets, which helps support and optimize immune function, mobility and enhance skin/coat.

Reasons why we love Woofstock:

  • Not only are dogs welcome, Woofstock actually goes out of the way to encourage pet parents to bring their dogs. From special High Tea events to doggy fashion shows, Woofstock does a great job of making their event truly dog friendly
  • It is the Who’s Who of the doggy world. Anyone who is anyone in the animal health field is there and there is something to suit the tastes of even the most fickle canine
  • If you’re looking for something natural or unique you’re sure to find it in the aisles of Woofstock.  Pet parents searching for something different will have no trouble finding what they want.

This year Winter Woofstock takes place on November 17th & 18th, 2012 at the Direct Energy Centre (CNE grounds).  We hope to see you there!

Well folks, the verdict is in and it’s official:  this past weekend’s Winter Woofstock 2011 was simply WOOFTASTIC!

Pet parents, accompanied by their favourite festive pooches, lined up extra early to get in to this annual event which took place in downtown Toronto at the Direct Energy Centre.  This year’s Woofstock boasted several thousand square feet of canine couture, puppy pleasures and other doggy delights.  Bottom line? If you’re a dog lover, then Woofstock is the place to be.

As many of you know, this was Avivagen’s first appearance at one of the Woofstock events and we hope it was just the first of many.  Graham Burton, one of the researchers behind Oximunol Chewables active ingredient, OxC-beta, joined me bright and early Saturday morning as we sniffed and belly-rubbed our way through the tail-waggin’ crowds.  From pugs to poodles; from dachsunds to danes, there were dogs of just about every size, shape and colour.

It was so great to get out and meet all the wonderful pet parents and the endless parade of adorable dogs made the day even better!

Thank you so much to everyone who came out and took the time to stop by our booth to say hello.  We hope you enjoyed Winter Woofstock and we look forward to seeing you and your pet again soon 🙂

And if you filled out a ballot to win one of our More Zoom or Less Groom gift baskets stay tuned…..!  The winners will be announced on Friday

Oximunol Chewable Tablets are a new kind of pet supplement that supports immune function leading to improvements in mobility, skin/coat and overall health.

It seems with its many attributes Oximunol Chewables are too good to be true.

Improved mobility
Decreased shedding
Improved skin/coat quality
Increased energy
Optimized digestion

And yet, the reports coming in from pet parents across Canada are undeniable:

“Since starting the Oximunol Solar has gone from glorified doormat to full-throttle puppy again. She’s having a blast chasing after my two young daughters and playing with the family cat.”

“I just wanted to send you a quick note to let you know how incredibly happy I am with the Oximunol Chewables. Cassius, my AmStaff x American bulldog had been banished from the bed due to excessive shedding – I can TRY to get hair out of him now and come up with almost nothing. He used to clog the drain in the bathtub two or three times during a bath – now I can bathe him and not have to clean the drain at all. I’ve recommended the 50 Challenge to my mom and a couple of my friends who have dogs with varying skin/coat issues and I’m hoping that they see the same amazing results that I have.”

“Lottie is doing extremely well! No more shedding, this product is amazing – it took about 7 days to see the change, she likes it too which is easy to administer”

“The boys have been taking the tablets for 16 days now and I want to let you know about the miracle at our house! Dante has started waiting at the back door for someone to take him for a walk!! I used to pull him around on the third walk and now he is pulling me! Dante now does the back stairs by himself, I swear with a spring in his step!  And guess who was on the futon (upstairs) when I got up in the middle of the night Saturday?!  THIS is the milestone I was waiting for!  So happy you can’t measure it!!  Thank you so much for giving this back to Dante!!”

It’s obvious from the above testimonials that Oximunol Chewables are improving the lives of Canadian dogs but what makes this tiny little supplement so special?

To answer this question, it might be easier to tell you what Oximunol Chewable Tablets are not:

Oximunol Chewables are not anti-oxidants.
Oximunol Chewables are not omega-fatty acids.
Oximunol Chewables are not probiotics.
Oximunol Chewables are not Vitamin A.
Oximunol Chewables are not beta-carotene.

So what does that leave?

It leaves a supplement that is truly like no other.

About 20 years ago, when other researchers were focusing on Vitamin A, which is the most well known derivative of beta-carotene, Dr. Graham Burton, leading carotenoid researcher, was moving in a different direction.

Vitamin A, as many know, is formed when the beta-carotene molecule is split in half using oxygen molecules and a special enzyme in the gut.  But what about all the other compounds formed when oxygen and beta-carotene meet?

Enter OxC-beta, a complex mixture of molecules formed when beta-carotene encounters oxygen molecules and is allowed to fully oxidize.

With so much focus on anti-oxidants it’s easy to see why few researchers were exploring the benefits of oxidation and yet, what Dr. Burton discovered was that the key to unlocking beta-carotene’s biological benefits was, indeed, oxygen.

Turns out, oxygen is a pretty big deal in the chemistry world.  After all, only one oxygen molecule separates water from hydrogen peroxide.  One, we know, is poison and one is the very essence of life.

According to clinical and laboratory studies carried out by Chemaphor by Dr. Jamie Nickerson and his team, OxC-beta has been shown to have the ability to prime an organism’s innate immune system.

What does that mean exactly?  It means that if the body were a city, the innate immune system would be kind of like the cops walking the beat.  More cops equals reduced crime and better ability to stop bad guys before they damage anything.

A primed innate immune system means that an organism is better prepared to fend off foreign attackers such as bacteria, viruses and other harmful substances.

With less energy being expended on fighting off bad guys, the body can use that energy to keep things running at optimum levels.  Outwardly we see this as improvements in skin/coat, reduced shedding, better regulation of inflammatory responses leading to improved mobility, optimized digestion and increased energy.

So back to the original question: what are Oximunol Chewables? They are a once-a-day canine supplement containing OxC-beta as the active ingredient that, in clinical studies supported by laboratory studies, has been shown to exert its effects by priming a dog’s innate immune system leading to improved overall health.

Oximunol Chewable Tablets are a new kind of pet supplement that supports immune function leading to improvements in mobility, skin/coat and overall health.

To date, over 2,000 dogs are enjoying the benefits of supplementation with Oximunol Chewable Tablets

And while the response has been great, it’s left many pet parents scratching their heads wondering how such a tiny little tablet can have such a positive impact on their pet’s skin/coat quality, shedding and mobility.

Supporting immune function is key to your dog’s optimum health!

The strength of a structure depends heavily on the strength of the foundation upon which it is built. Even a seemingly insignificant flaw can have disastrous consequences, compromising the structural integrity and putting the structure at risk of tumbling down.

In organisms, such as companion animals and humans, the structural integrity of the body is heavily dependent on the proper functioning of the immune system. A poorly functioning immune system not only puts the organism at risk for major disease, but also creates a situation where the body is unable to properly control inflammation.

Believe it or not inflammation is critical to survivial

The inflammatory process is a complex and protective biological response aimed at ridding the body of harmful stimuli, such as pathogens, and initiating the healing process.

Though inconvenient at times, the inflammatory process is critical to survival; without inflammation wounds and infections would never heal.

When inflammation runs amok the results can be disastrous – but you can help your dog regain control

When everything is functioning optimally, the inflammatory response is able to do its job effectively and protect the body.  However, sometimes it happens that the very system that protects the body can become its worst enemy.

So what causes the inflammatory response to go out of control and what can you do to prevent it?

The truth is that we’re just starting to learn about the biological significance of this system and it’s effects on overall health. What we do know is that stress is the body’s worst enemy, compromising immune function and jeopardizing health and wellbeing.

Newsflash: Stress is bad – even for our canine companions!

Anything that the body encounters that forces it to work beyond its normal capacity can be considered stress. This includes not only psychological factors but physical ones as well.

Obesity is, by far, the number one stress that our pets are subjected to and the consequences of those few extra pounds can be devastating. Add to that environmental pollutants and dietary deficiencies and you have the perfect recipe for deficient immunity.

While physiological stress can be difficult to avoid (you can’t exactly stop your pet from breathing polluted air) you can help ensure your pets health and wellbeing by doing your best to help strengthen their immune system. That means encouraging a healthy body mass index and feeding a healthy and balanced diet.

But even the best laid plans can go astray which is why it’s important to look to other ways to help your pet’s immune system stay strong and healthy.

And that’s where Oximunol™ Chewables come in.

Oximunol™ Chewables support your dog’s immune system to keep it functioning optimally

Oximunol™ Chewables have been shown to support the immune system leading to an improvement in overall health and a reduction in the inflammation associated with skin/coat and mobility issues such as arthritis and allergic dermatitis.

With less energy being wasted on attacking healthy tissue, the body is able to more effectively utilize nutrients and energy leading to increased enjoyment in daily activities such as walking and playing.

Young, healthy pets can benefit from Oximunol™ Chewables too!

A healthy pet that takes the supplement will not exhibit any outward signs of improvement but rest assured that on a cellular level the immune system is primed and ready to spring into action at the first sign of trouble.

If you have pets, chances are you have shedding!

It’s a sight all pet owners are familiar with: a small tuft of fur glued precariously to your pant leg or adorning the collar of your favorite shirt.

Shedding. It’s a natural part of pet ownership but one that most pet parents say they could do without.

It seems whether you have a Collie or a Corgi, a Mastiff or a mutt, if you have pets you have shedding. Period.

Pet owners all across Canada are in constant search of a product or device to help them control shedding and put an end to the crazy clumps of fur that cling to every surface in their home all year long.

From supplements to pills and from combs to rollers it seems there is no end to the possible remedies to this unsightly problem.

One popular remedy, touted for its skin and coat benefits, is omega fatty acids found most commonly in the oils from fish such as salmon. These oils work by acting as a natural anti-inflammatory and by increasing overall skin and coat health. And while these fatty fish oils show some beneficial effects, many owners complain that the greasy capsules and smelly oils they need to give several times a day are almost as bad as the shedding problem itself.

To those owners who feel they are fighting a losing battle and are ready to wave the white flag and surrender, I say this: All hope is not lost.

New research on the effects of oxidized carotenoids on the immune system has uncovered a humbling discovery about the nature of beta carotene.

It seems beta carotene, a molecule most famous for lending carrots their characteristic orange colour, is much more important to canine health than once thought.

For years, researchers have sought to find out what this carotenoid molecule does and how it might be beneficial to human and animal health.

What they’ve discovered is that the beta carotene molecule itself is not as important as the molecules that are created when the beta carotene is broken up using oxygen. This full oxidation occurs spontaneously in nature in miniscule amounts every day but now researchers are able to duplicate this natural process in the laboratory.

What does this have to do with shedding?

Well it turns out that dogs that have a better immune system are healthier, which helps with better coat retention and therefore reducing shedding.

And that means less vacuuming for you.

Now Canadian pet owners have a new choice when it comes to managing the shedding fur of their favorite four-legged friend.

Oximunol, a simple once-a-day natural supplement formulated from the oxidized derivatives of the beta-carotene molecule just might be the solution pet owners across Canada have been searching for.

Working truly from the inside out, these oxidized carotenoids help to keep Fido’s fur where it belongs – on Fido!
